Nasharudin Mat Isa is a Malaysian politician and is currently the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Bachok constituency in Kelantan.[1]
Nasharudin attended the University of Glasgow,[2] before as a Member of Parliament for Yan from 1999 to 2004.[3] In 2004 lost his seat in Parliament when he switched to run for the Besut seat in Terengganu but in 2008 was elected to the federal seat of Bachok, defeating the incumbent Awang Adek Hussin of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.[4]
Nasharudin served as the Deputy President of PAS from 2005 to 2011.[3] He won re-election to the position in a contested battle in 2009, which was claimed by observers to be a win for PAS' conservatives.[5] However, he was defeated for re-election in 2009 by moderate candidate Mohamed Sabu.[6] Malaysian media has cited Nasharudin as one of PAS' leading proponents of entering talks with its longtime opponents UMNO to establish a ruling Malay coalition between UMNO and PAS.[7][8]
